The Success of Cork Flooring

One of the most popular flooring options across the United States today is Cork. It is environmentally friendly, pleasing to the eye and FEELS GREAT under your feet. Put it in the kitchen, bathroom, bedroom or Laundry, Cork Flooring is GREAT for any room of the house.

The cork used is harvested from the cork oak tree. Unlike Pine, Oak, and other trees used for flooring, the Cork Oak Tree does not have to be cut down (killed) to make the flooring. To harvest the cork, every 9 years the bark is stripped off of the tree. This does not kill the tree and does not damage the forest that it grows in. There are not many other flooring options that provide this level of environmental friendliness.

Many harvesters consider that many of the trees live and flourish for over 200 years due to this harvesting operation. The same can not be said for pine tree or oak tree, where, once it is cut back must be replanted. This is an improbably decimating and uneffective process, as it could take up to 40 years for the tree to germinate to a fair size where the procedure is replicated.

Not only is the tree not killed during the process, but the floors themselves are actually made from the waste products of the cork (used for wine bottles) manufacturing process. So, your cork flooring is harvested in a 'green' way and made from materials that are being recycled and would otherwise be waste.

Just because the product is great for the environment because it is made from recycled materials, does not mean that there are not many other good options for you to choose from.
