Flooring – Acid Stained Floors and Decorative Concrete

Acid stained floors are simply extraordinary flooring alternatives if you are tired of carpet, tile and wood flooring. Acid stained floors offer warm earthy tones or vibrant hues, there are simply unlimited color options and your contractor can even do custom colors.

All concrete surfaces can be stained inside or outside new or existing concrete. The process usually takes about five days start to finish but the results are incredible. If you are thinking about having stained floors there are some simple precautions that should be taken in order to save you money and to assure you that your floor will turn out properly.
New concrete should be covered with plastic to protect it from stains from other trades such as painters plumbers etc... all stains on any concrete surface have to be removed before staining can take place and this can be an added expense to having your floor done. Acid stains are translucent and may not take stain in areas that have previous stains on them such as paint. Rule of thumb is that if you know you are going to have an acid stained floor then you should cover it if possible.

The adhesive comes in gallon size buckets like paint buckets it could take several to do a large area of floor or an entire floor. The paintbrush is to paint the adhesive onto the floor in a thin coat. On the other hand, you can use the putty knife if you want to.

The floor tile comes in two kinds; just the plain tiles and the kind with an adhesive on the back and you just peel the paper then gently lay the tile on the floor in place. However this does not stay down good without the adhesive.

First, you will need to prepare the room you wish to put the tile down in. By clearing out the old floor covering then once you have done that you will need to clean the floors thoroughly with floor cleaner and make sure the floors are in good shape.

Once the entire floor is clean and free of dust then you can begin to place the tile on the floor. Simple pick out the corner the farthest from the exit. Keep your tile and the adhesive close and work a small area at a time. Paint the adhesive on the floor wide enough for one or two rows of the tile. Then carefully place the tile end to end one after the other until the adhesive area is covered.

An arm radial saw is another common type of saw. This saw uses and arm that moves the blade from side to side to make straight cuts. These saws are not recommended for beginners as they are more dangerous than other saws. Typically these are only used by professionals in lumber yards and expert home builders or remodelers.

You want the windows, the doors to be, opened, and plenty of air to circulate through the room. This is because the adhesive has strong odorous fumes and may be to strong for a person
